Shenzhen Ranks 8th in Global Esports City Influence Ranking
On June 17, 2025, Shenzhen made headlines as it ranked 8th globally in the Esports City Influence Index, according to the newly released 2024 Global Esports Industry Development Report. This influential report was jointly launched for the first time by the China Media Group’s National Esports Development Research Institute and Tencent Esports, with research support from Penguin Survey and Esports Magazine.
The top three cities—Shanghai, Los Angeles, and Seoul—earned their spots through long-term investments and a thriving esports ecosystem. Beijing, Shenzhen, and Chengdu also secured places in the global top ten, highlighting China’s growing dominance in the esports sector.
The report evaluated cities across 18 countries and regions, including 31 provinces and municipalities in China, using a comprehensive data model based on industry size, infrastructure, cultural influence, and communication power. It gathered results from online surveys and big data analysis to form a multi-dimensional “Esports City Influence Index.”
Shenzhen’s inclusion showcases its rising stature in the global gaming world. With a booming tech industry, large-scale esports events, and rapid development in digital infrastructure, Shenzhen is becoming a hub for professional gamers, teams, and developers alike.
As esports continues to evolve into a billion-dollar global industry, Shenzhen is clearly leveling up to become a major player on the world stage.
