Shenzhen Selected as a National Pilot City for Sports Consumption and Event Economy

Shenzhen, March 17 – Shenzhen has been officially selected as a national pilot city for promoting sports consumption and the event economy, according to a recent announcement by the General Administration of Sport of China. The selection is part of a broader initiative aimed at expanding the sports industry and boosting economic growth through major sporting events.

The program aligns with the Central Economic Work Conference directives and the Government Work Report’s objectives to unlock the potential of sports consumption. According to Notice No. 631 (2024) issued by the General Administration of Sport, a total of 30 cities across China were chosen for the pilot program, with Guangzhou and Shenzhen representing Guangdong Province.

As a global innovation hub, Shenzhen has a strong foundation in sports development, boasting world-class sports venues, international sporting events, and a dynamic fitness culture. Being part of this national pilot program will further accelerate the city’s sports industry growth, investment in sports infrastructure, and expansion of professional and amateur sports activities.
