Overview

Futian Checkpoint is a major land border crossing between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, located in Futian District, Shenzhen, and connected directly to Hong Kong’s Lok Ma Chau Spur Line MTR station. It is primarily a passenger-only crossing (no vehicles) and is known for its efficiency and modern facilities.

How to Cross

  1. From Shenzhen to Hong Kong:
    • Take Shenzhen Metro Line 4 to Futian Port Station.
    • Follow signs to immigration, complete exit procedures for mainland China.
    • Walk across the covered bridge to Lok Ma Chau Station (HK).
    • Clear Hong Kong immigration and board the MTR East Rail Line to destinations like Sha Tin, Tai Wai, or Hung Hom.
  2. From Hong Kong to Shenzhen:
    • Take the MTR East Rail Line to Lok Ma Chau Station.
    • Follow immigration procedures to exit Hong Kong.
    • Walk across the bridge to Futian Checkpoint, clear Chinese immigration, and enter Shenzhen.

A. Luohu Port (罗湖口岸) – Lo Wu Crossing

  • Hours: 6:30 AM – 12:00 AM
  • Hong Kong Side: Lo Wu MTR Station (East Rail Line)
  • Shenzhen Side: Luohu Commercial Area (Line 1)

B. Shenzhen Bay Port (深圳湾口岸)

  • Type: Pedestrians, cars, and buses (24-hour freight, passenger hours 6:30 AM – 12:00 AM)
  • Hong Kong Side: Near Yuen Long (buses to Tuen Mun, Tsuen Wan, etc.)
  • Shenzhen Side: Nanshan District (connected by buses & taxis)
  • Best for: Travelers to/from western Hong Kong (e.g., Tuen Mun, Airport).

C. Lok Ma Chau / Huanggang Port (皇岗口岸)

  • Type: 24-hour crossing (only one operating overnight)
  • Hong Kong Side: Buses to Mong Kok, Wan Chai, etc.
  • Shenzhen Side: Futian District (buses & taxis)
  • Best for: Late-night or early-morning crossings.

D. West Kowloon High-Speed Rail (西九龙站)

  • Type: High-speed rail (Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express)
  • Hong Kong Side: West Kowloon Station (connected to MTR)
  • Shenzhen Side: Futian/Shenzhen North Station
  • Best for: Fast access to central Hong Kong (15 min from Shenzhen).

3. Tips for a Smooth Border Crossing

  • Check Visa Requirements: Ensure you have the correct visa (e.g., Mainland China visa for foreigners, HK permit for mainland Chinese).
  • Avoid Peak Times: Mornings (7–9 AM) and evenings (6–8 PM) are busiest.
  • Use E-Channels: If eligible (frequent travelers, HK ID holders, or e-passport users), register for automated clearance.
  • Carry Necessary Documents: Passport, visa, and (if applicable) China Health Code.
